Middle School Curriculum
Wildwood Christian Academy is an academically rigorous school. We challenge our students in and out of the classroom. Weekly work includes classwork, homework, tests, quizzes, projects and memory verses.
We are excited to partner with Bob Jones University Press to provide extensive and specialized instruction to meet each student’s educational goals. BJU Press has been offering a quality curriculum with high academic rigor, teaching critical thinking with a biblical worldview since 1974.
The 6th - 8th grade classrooms utilize BJU Press Textbooks for the subjects of Bible, Vocabulary, Handwriting (cursive); Reading, Writing & Grammar, Literature, Heritage Studies and Science. Each student is given access to streaming videos taught by an experienced teacher for additional educational support. For more information on BJU Press visit https://www.bjupress.com/
The middle school students also weekly participate in Health and Nutrition, Physical Education and Journalism.
We also supplement our curriculum with online programs. We utilize Renaissance for STAR reading assessments, STAR Math assessments and individualized AR reading goals. WCA utilizes Freckle Math to increase individual math skills.
Middle school students participate in standardized testing in May of each school year. WCA offers the Iowa assessment for students.
Regarding Common Core
"Here at Wildwood Christian Academy we have the blessed opportunity to educate our students to the highest standards through the most effective teaching strategies. Regarding the newly released federal education standards, Common Core State Standards (CCSS), we are not obligated to adopt or adhere to them. While there are some positive aspects within the CCSS we have set out to implement a curricula that is both rigorous and biblically foundational that meets and exceeds all federal standards. WCA will educate the whole student by having the students academic, social, and physical skills revolve around their relationship with Jesus Christ. below you will find two links and one attachment regarding the statements our curriculum publishers have made about the Common Core State Standards and teaching."
